Swedish Massage
About Massage
Massage dates back to ancient times where touch was used as a form of
healing. A Swedish Physiologist called Hennik Ling, 1776 - 1839, researched
massage and called the system of techniques he developed 'medical
gymnastics'. He introduced French terms such as 'effleurage', 'petrissage',
'friction' and vibration. Through these techniques he created a scientific
system of therapeutic massage, and today known as 'Swedish Massage'.
Today massage has developed a combination of techniques which all have their
roots to the Swedish system. Massage is an antidote to stress and an aid to
good health.
